The National Soaring Museum (NSM) in Elmira, NY is seeking candidates for the position of Executive Director.
The NSM strives to preserve the heritage of US motorless flight and promote greater public understanding of soaring and related sciences.
The position of Executive Director includes:
- Work with a small staff of employees and volunteers to develop and maintain the museum and its exhibits, foster museum attendance and manage daily activities following general policies and guidance set by a nationally-based Board of Trustees
- Interface with our affiliate Soaring Society of America
- Development and implementation of an annual budget and administer museum affairs within budget limits
- Oversee and play active role in the securing of national and regional grants
- Maintain a strong working relationship with local government of Chemung County, Chemung County Chamber of Commerce and Harris Hill Soaring Corporation (HHSC)
The ideal candidate is a good people person and skilled communicator who can interact effectively with museum members, guests and donors. Candidate may be required to accommodate weekend and evening special events. Preference will be given to candidates with non-profits and/or museum management experience. Strong preference will be given to candidates with a soaring background.
